Book Review: The Humans by Matt Haig

Growing up, we all watched movies about aliens. In other instances, we have read books where an alien tends to be the center of attention, allowing us (readers) more liberty to picture an image of that creature.

But do you ever realize that what is alien to us can also feel alienated from us? In the end, the alien is just a concept – of things and happenings far from our grasp.

The story of this book similarly revolves around an alien trapped on the earth. It shares the perspective of a being naive to the concepts of earth. Consequently, viewing humans with a different lens.

What do I am liking most about the story? It is the approach of the author and his view of the earth and humans. you jump into it thinking it is an ordinary young adult novel, and gradually it grasps the reader with the fantastic philosophy that is the core of the plot.

As a reader and observer of life and surroundings, I am smitten by the ability of Matt Haig to think unconventional on such a great level. It’s not a cliche science fiction story where the author just puts in all the ingredients of his thought process and offers readers a supernatural world.

An impression of the story plot: It is very much true to its essence and talks about earth and human in a mind-blowing manner. it grips the attention, engages, and encourages us to read further. Sadly, many the storybooks lack this quality including some known bestsellers.

It’s amazing how once you are a few pages into the story; you are engulfed in a whirlwind of Matt’s observations which are so nicely incorporated into this tale. I will rate The Humans by Matt Haig ten out of ten.

Let’s talk about the ending of the book: keeping it true to its unprecedented style; the book ends with some 50+ pointers (also a part of the story). I think it is the best bit of the book. Hence, adding the appeal of the book for bookworms and true fiction aficionados.

What are the dislikes? Since it is unfair to be biased and not mention what I disliked in the book. I will say the fact that it finished so early was the only sad part.
