Book Review: The Tattooist of Auschwitz

The title: Let’s give credit to the intriguing title and selling copies and fooling readers into thinking this is a good read. The four-word title is amazing with the inclusion of two strong keywords. Auschwitz and tattooist. As Auschwitz is a compelling term for readers who read war stories. Hence, the act of tattooing was major and one of the cruelest actions in the concentration camps.

However, the writing terribly failed to provide readers what they have expected while buying the cover. All I thought after quitting this book was: that some books are simply a grand waste of paper.

Why do I hate this book? wartime stories are close to my heart. I grew up reading amazing stories like the book thief, the diary of a young girl, all the light we cannot see, and others. they give the reader a glimpse into the horrors of such dark times. We grasp tragedy, humanity, philosophy and so many different human emotions. however, this book was a total disappointment.

This book is about a tattooist at the concentration camp at the time of mass level Jewish genocide. The book story is apparently about that Auschwitz survivor who happens to praise himself solely in the book. The fictional manner of story narration was not enough to do justice with fiction genre itself.

The tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris can be defined as a 'could be good story' wasted by the lack of a strong plot.

What do I dislike in this book most? The part which made me cringe was the relentless effort of the author toward the portrayal of the protagonist in an immature manner. It felt like the writer was indecisive on what not to include in the story and eventually, there were more explanations of ‘how Lale managed’ the circumstances rather than the plot.
